Jurassic Solar+ - Alberta Solar

Overview

Jurassic Solar+ is comprised of a 220 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) project and 80 MW/160 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) project located near Iddesleigh, Alberta.

The solar project and the battery energy storage project will be constructed and operated independently of one another.

Features

• In December 2024, the Proponent submitted an application to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) requesting approval for updated equipment and a time extension for completion of the Jurassic Solar+ project. The AUC approved the application in February 2025.
• The battery energy storage project is expected to commence construction in June 2025.
• The battery energy storage project signed a 15-year offtake agreement for 100% of the battery energy storage capacity with members of the Alberta Schools Commodities Purchasing Consortium.
• Once built, the Jurassic battery energy storage project will be Alberta’s largest lithium-ion battery storage system.
